ADJUDICATION PROCESS
Kelli O'Hara Award adjudicators are professionals involved in the arts. Productions and students will be scored using a 1-5 rubric in multiple categories.
Kelli O'Hara Awards staff require new and returning adjudicators to participate in a yearly training session prior to September 1st of each year. During this time, we address any changes to the scoring and program structure and relay feedback we have received from participating teachers and schools throughout the previous award season. The Kelli O'Hara Awards strives to make this program as equitable, consistent and fair as possible. Our adjudicators are also provided the following guidelines.

RENTALS/ADULT ARTISTS/STUDENT DESIGNERS
We recognize there is a wide range of budgetary considerations across the various schools. In the interest of maintaining scoring equity, our adjudication model accounts for rented sets and costumes and ensembles that include adults or children. Please notify the Kelli O’Hara awards if you plan to rent some or all your costumes and/or set. You will not be penalized; we just want to make sure that schools who build their own sets and costumes or who do not use additional members of the community are not placed at a disadvantage. If you do build your own sets and/or costumes, please let us know if they will be designed by an adult or a student.
Additionally, please notify the Kelli O’Hara Awards if you will be casting any adults, using adults in the orchestra, or have adult designers for lighting, audio, scenic, costumes, or props. That will be considered as well.
FINAL SCORING
Once all submissions have been received from adjudicators, scores are totaled for overall productions and individual performers. At the end of the school year, the top 10 finalists of Best Actor and Actress, and the top 3 finalists from Best Musical and Best Ensemble are reviewed and confirmed by the Kelli O'Hara Awards committee.
